Baking with the Barbers

A favorite family tradition of ours is decorating Christmas cookies together. I've been doing it since I was a kid. This is the same cookie and frosting recipe my mom used...even the cookie cutters are mostly the same. I have bought some new ones periodically.
The boys got to make the cut outs first and we baked them and then they got to decorate their cookies.

Hayden getting very detailed in his cookie art.

Logan had a little difficulty frosting, so I helped frost and he put the sprinkles on....on the cookie, on the counter and on the floor!

He go the shiner from his brother. Nice huh?

Hayden's cookies

This was my favorite...Logan's Santa. I think those red things are his eyes...he's possessed!

Even Chad got into the cookie decorating action. He made the Blue man group, the Jackson 5, a yellow snowman (don't eat yellow snow)...you get the idea.

Here is the Blue Man group.

What if any are some of your family traditions?

Halloween

Halloween 2009, North Carolina. We were invited by Hayden's friends' mom to join them at their church for "Trunk or Treat". They had a little party at the church a week before Halloween. The kids trick-or-treated from the trunks of all the cars. It was fun and they got quite a haul and Hayden got to spend some time with his friends (twins) before he had to move.

Logan was GI Joe

Hayden was Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th
(It was the cheapest costume ever!)

Bryn was a Bumble Bee with a broken appendage.

She loved wearing her costume! She won't wear one of my hair clippies but she'll wear antennae. Go figure.

Ready to get her treat on. (sans cast)

Of course it decided to rain when the kids were trick-or-treating. They still had fun, especially Bryn. She LOVED it!

Logan turns 6!

August 31, 2009

Logan finally turned 6. He's been telling everyone he's 6 for about 3 months now.

Presents, presents and more presents!

He's all about G.I. Joe. (He hasn't even seen the movie.)

New jammies!

I love the faces he makes!

This is what he really wanted!

Cake time! Not fancy like I would normally make, but it'll do! He had some of the neighborhood kids over to have cake and ice cream with him. It was fun.

He blew the candles out before we sang "Happy Birthday!". Do over!

Hayden throwing out gang signs...

mmmmm....cake

Bryn loved the cake ...and so did her shirt!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOGAN!

A weekend of firsts! On Sunday we took Bryn to the Audubon Zoo, her first trip to the zoo! The Robichaux's went with us and it was a gorgeous 83 degree day!

My little Buddhas

The first animals we encountered were the elephants. Bryn was in awe! She just stared at them and pointed..."doggie".

The carousel

I was a little nervous to put her on the animals that go up and down. So we sat on the bench and she loved it. She didn't know where to look. It was cute.

Say cheese!

The little monkeys! Bryn, Hayden, Logan, CJ and Danica.

Parin and Brynnie

Daddy and Brynnie

All tuckered out...she missed out on the giraffes.

That is some BIG bamboo!

As soon as we got to the zoo all Hayden wanted to see was the Komodo Dragon. It was the last thing we saw and he was clearly not happy.

I tried to get a picture with my boys...and well now Logan was pouting. I can't even remember why!

We had a lot of fun. Bryn got a stuffed elephant to remember her first zoo trip by. She seemed to really like the elephants the best. Hayden and Logan liked the snakes the best so they each got a toy snake. We were all so tired from being in the sun all day so we stopped for ice cream. The perfect ending for the perfect day!
